Grado Prestige SILVER-3

The Prestige Silver3 is a moving magnet (MM) cartridge from Grado, designed to be fitted to a tonearm for the reproduction of vinyl records. It belongs to the Prestige range from the American manufacturer, hand-assembled at the Brooklyn workshop by technicians, some of whom have more than twenty-five years of experience.

The Silver3 is built around a four-piece OTL (Optimized Transmission Line) cantilever, fitted with a diamond stylus specific to Grado, elliptical in shape and mounted on a brass ring. This transmission line technology aims to optimise signal transfer from the record groove to the cartridge's generator, limiting parasitic resonances and preserving both the fundamental frequencies and harmonics of the musical signal. The manufacturer states that this design helps reduce mechanical noise generated by the cartridge's motor system and improve the reproduction of the soundstage in height, width and depth.

The Silver3's generator is machined using a turning process intended to limit distortion and increase sonic transparency. The cartridge also uses ultra-pure copper wire coil-winding techniques, originally developed for Grado's Lineage series, applied here to the system's four coils in pursuit of a precise balance between the stereo channels. Like all Grado cartridges, the Silver3 relies on a dual-magnet system and a patented design named Flux-Bridger, conceived to optimise the efficiency of the moving mass generation system while seeking balance across the entire frequency range.
