The PS2000e is an open-back dynamic hi-fi headphone, designed by Grado for critical listening at home. It belongs to the top of the brand's range and is distinguished by internal sound chambers made of hand-carved maple, covered with a Smoked Chrome finish unique to this model.
The structure combines worked wood with a metal alloy coating intended to limit hum and parasitic distortion. The driver has been specifically redesigned for this model, with a revised diaphragm geometry to better reproduce the musical signal, along with a new front cap and new grille designed to reduce sound diffraction. The coil uses UHPLC (ultra-high purity, long crystal) copper, and the whole assembly is mounted in an exclusive hybrid housing aimed at limiting driver resonance.
This type of open-back design is intended for sedentary use in a quiet room, for headphone listening that favours the breadth of the soundstage and the placement of instruments rather than sound isolation. What to check before buying used
On these open-back headphones, the foam ear pads compress and crack over time: check their flexibility and that there are no tears around the maple sound chambers. The widened leather headband deserves careful inspection of the stitching and padding, which are prone to drying out. Also check the join between the 2-metre cable and the earcups, the area most exposed to mechanical wear on units that have seen heavy use.
