Description
The Platinum3 is a moving magnet (MM) cartridge from Grado, positioned just above the Opus3 in the manufacturer's Timbre series. It is fitted to a tonearm to convert the groove of the vinyl record into an electrical signal destined for a phono preamplifier.
Its body is made from Jarrah wood, a material used by Grado for its distinctive acoustic properties. The cartridge is built around a twin magnet system and incorporates a two-step shielding process applied to the four coils. This shielding is intended to ensure perfect unison between the coils and limit interference, for a signal transmitted with less mechanical noise and better tracking. The stylus tip is diamond, hand-mounted.
Grado here combines recent winding techniques with older manufacturing know-how, with the aim of achieving a clear reproduction across the entire sound spectrum, without harshness or aggressiveness in the treble.
