Description
The Hegel H600 is a stereo integrated amplifier with dual-mono design, combining a powerful amplification stage with a complete digital section featuring a 32-bit/384 kHz DAC converter. It combines within a single chassis the functions of a power amplifier and a network DAC, allowing connection of both analogue sources and digital streams or streaming services.
Its dual-mono design separates the circuits of the two channels within a single unit, in the manner of two mono amplifiers combined in one chassis, with the aim of limiting interaction between channels. The amplifier delivers 2 x 303 W into 8 ohms and can drive a load down to 2 ohms, with a damping factor of 4000, reflecting a good ability to control speaker driver movement, including on current-hungry speakers. Frequency response extends from 2 Hz to 100 kHz, the signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 100 dB, and harmonic distortion remains below 0.005%, with intermodulation under 0.01%.
On the digital connectivity side, the unit offers three optical inputs (24-bit/96 kHz, MQA 8x), two coaxial inputs (24-bit/192 kHz, DSD64 DoP, MQA 8x) and one USB-B input (32-bit/384 kHz, DSD256 DoP, MQA 8x), as well as a DLNA network player compatible with 24-bit/192 kHz, DSD64 and MQA 8x. It also plays MP3, WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, DSF, DFF, AAC, PCM and Ogg formats, and supports AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect for wireless streaming. On the analogue side, two unbalanced RCA inputs and two balanced XLR inputs allow connection of a CD player, a pre-amplified turntable or a television. A fixed output allows connection of an external headphone amplifier, while a variable output allows pairing with an additional power amplifier or a subwoofer.
This type of unit is aimed at users wishing to centralise amplification, digital conversion and network streaming in a single device, without multiplying boxes. Its power and high damping factor make it suited to installations with demanding floorstanding or bookshelf speakers, including low-impedance models, in a high-end stereo configuration.

What to check before buying used
On the dual-mono amplification section, check for the absence of hum, crackling when adjusting the volume, or channel imbalance, which are signs of wear in the power relays or supply capacitors. On the DAC and streaming module side, test network recognition, DLNA playback and each of the digital inputs (USB-B, coaxial, optical); a malfunction may indicate a faulty network card or outdated firmware. Finally, inspect the chassis's thermal dissipation, which must remain effective despite the 22 kg weight and the power delivered into low impedance.
