Description
The Isol8 SubStation Integra is a mains filtering block designed to improve the electrical supply of a hi-fi installation. It is presented as a reduced and integrated version of the brand's SubStation LC and HC models, bringing together in a single chassis the functions previously spread across two separate units.
Inside the chassis, described as premium quality, are Transmodal filters dedicated respectively to high power and low/medium power. These filters are fed by an Axis circuit, tasked with blocking parasitic DC current that may be present on the mains supply. The input connector is a Neutrik model rated up to 20 A, allowing an amplifier drawing up to 16 A at full load to be powered without restriction.
This type of product is aimed at hi-fi enthusiasts concerned with the quality of their installation's mains supply, particularly when it includes a power-hungry power amplifier. What to check before buying used
The Neutrik mains connector can loosen or show signs of wear after numerous connections: check its retention and that there is no play when inserting the cord. Also check the condition of the chassis and for any signs of overheating around the input connector, especially if the unit has been used with an amplifier close to its 20 A limit. A test under load with the complete installation remains the best way to ensure the internal filters have not been damaged by a previous mains incident.
