Description
The JBL Cinema 510 is a 5.1 home cinema package designed to give a living room a complete sound system without installation complexity. It brings together five compact satellites and an active subwoofer, supplied with the cables needed for direct Plug & Play connection.
Each satellite carries a 75 mm midrange driver with an impedance of 4 Ω and a sensitivity of 86 dB, which lets them deliver a consistent tonal balance across the front, centre and rear channels. The active subwoofer is built around a 16.5 cm woofer paired with a 60 W RMS built-in amplifier in a bass-reflex enclosure, tasked with reproducing the low end of films or music without straining the satellites. The system's frequency response extends from 46 Hz to 20 kHz, and the package accepts a recommended amplifier power of between 10 and 100 W, which leaves some latitude in choosing the matching home cinema amplifier.

What to check before buying used
The active subwoofer deserves careful listening: the capacitors in its built-in amplifier age and can cause hum, distortion or unexpected cut-outs after a few minutes of warming up. On the five satellites, check for crackling or a veiled sound from the 75 mm driver, which is more fragile than a conventional midrange. Also inspect the supplied cables: the original jack or RCA connectors oxidise, and a faulty contact shows up as a silent or intermittent channel.
