Description
The JBL L100 MKII Classic is a studio monitor-type floorstanding speaker, designed as a 3-way Bass-reflex with front-firing port. This front-mounted port placement makes positioning the speaker easier, including close to a wall, without requiring the clearance usually needed by a rear-firing port.
The woofer measures 300 mm in diameter and features a pure cellulose pulp diaphragm, a material known for its behaviour at low frequencies. The midrange uses the same cellulose pulp diaphragm principle in a more compact 125 mm format, while the treble is handled by a 25 mm titanium dome. The stated frequency response spans from 40 Hz to 40,000 Hz at -6 dB, with crossover frequencies at 450 Hz and 3,500 Hz between the three drivers. What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the 300 mm woofer's suspension: the foam or rubber surround can harden, crack or come away over time, affecting bass performance. Also examine the titanium tweeter dome, which is prone to denting from impact, as well as the cabinet and side panel veneer for knocks, chips or wood delamination. A test at low then medium volume across all three drivers helps detect any crackling or distortion indicating a worn driver.
