The L82 MKII Classic is a two-way bookshelf speaker by JBL, designed to reproduce bass and treble separately thanks to a 200 mm woofer paired with a 25 mm dome tweeter. It follows in the line of the brand's historic 200 mm two-way speakers, revisited with modern transducers and crossover network.
The woofer uses a 200 mm cellulose pulp cone, while the tweeter features a 25 mm titanium dome, with a crossover frequency set at 1,700 Hz between the two drivers. The 88 dB sensitivity and 8 ohm impedance allow it to be paired with an amplifier with a recommended power output of between 25 and 150 W RMS. The stated frequency response spans from 44 Hz to 40,000 Hz (at -6 dB), covering a wide range of audible frequencies. A front-panel attenuator allows the level of the tweeter to be adjusted relative to the woofer, to tailor the sound to the room's acoustics or listening preferences.

What to check before buying used
The surrounds on the 200 mm woofer deserve close inspection: cellulose pulp can stiffen or crack with age, which affects bass performance. Also check the condition of the titanium tweeter dome, which is prone to damage and deformation, as well as the proper functioning of the front-panel attenuator, whose contacts can sometimes oxidise. Finally, examine the walnut veneer and Quadrex grille, which may show chips, delamination or discolouration depending on storage conditions.
