The JBL MA9100HP is an audio-video receiver designed for home cinema, capable of natively decoding immersive Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio across nine channels. It serves both as a multichannel amplifier and an audio-video connection hub for integrating a television or projector, a turntable and streaming sources.
The unit features nine channels of Class D amplification, with a rated power of 140 W RMS per channel into 8 Ω and 240 W RMS into 4 Ω (2 channels driven, 20 Hz – 20 kHz, 0.5% THD max), enough to power a complete multichannel setup without an external amplifier. On the video side, it offers six HDMI inputs, three of which are 8K compatible and three 4K, as well as two HDMI outputs including one with eARC, allowing several sources and a compatible television or video projector to be connected. A moving magnet phono input allows a turntable to be connected directly, while built-in streaming via AirPlay2, Chromecast and Bluetooth AptX Adaptive provides access to additional music sources without cabling. The Dirac Live Ready function paves the way for automatic room acoustic correction, and a secondary HDMI video output combined with a Zone2 function allows content to be streamed to a second space.
This receiver is aimed at those setting up a demanding multichannel home cinema installation, combining high-definition picture and immersive sound, with the option of integrating a vinyl source and streaming content to a secondary room. IP control, in addition to the physical controls, also allows it to be integrated into a third-party home automation system.

What to check before buying used
The HDMI inputs and eARC output are the first points to test, as this type of multichannel receiver is particularly heavily used on these connectors over the years. Also check that each Class D amplification channel works properly at a reasonable volume, channel by channel, to detect any distortion or a silent channel. The moving magnet phono input and network functions (Bluetooth, AirPlay2, Chromecast) also deserve a practical test before purchase.
