Description
The KEF C3 is a bookshelf speaker with a 2-way bass-reflex design. It combines a woofer and a dedicated tweeter to reproduce the full audible spectrum in a compact format, designed to fit easily into a listening room without taking up too much space.
The 130 mm woofer handles bass and midrange reproduction, while the 19 mm aluminium dome tweeter takes over from 2.5 kHz for the treble. This division of labour between the two drivers allows for a stated frequency response of 54 Hz to 40 kHz. With a sensitivity of 88 dB (2.83 V / 1 m) and a nominal impedance of 8 Ω, the C3 can be driven with a recommended amplifier power of between 10 and 125 W, leaving a comfortable margin for pairing with modest electronics as well as more powerful amplifiers.
Its compact format and weight of 4.4 kg make it a speaker suited to shelf placement, dedicated stands or a space where footprint needs to remain limited. It is suited to close-range, stereo listening, for music or versatile everyday use.

What to check before buying used
Check the flexibility of the woofer's surrounds: a sagging, hardened or cracked cone indicates ageing that affects bass reproduction. Inspect the tweeter's aluminium dome, which is particularly prone to dents and fingerprints. Also examine the cabinet (corners, veneer, bass-reflex port) to rule out any impact damage or signs of moisture, and listen to each speaker separately to detect any buzzing or loss of loading in the cabinet.
