Description
The Ci130QR is a round in-ceiling speaker from KEF, intended for installation in a ceiling or wall. Its ultra-slim bezel design aims for the most discreet possible integration into the décor, while still ensuring sound diffusion throughout the listening room.
This model incorporates KEF's patented Uni-Q technology: the 19 mm aluminium dome tweeter is placed at the acoustic centre of the polypropylene cone woofer/midrange, forming a point source. This coaxial positioning allows for wide, even sound dispersion, which reduces the number of speakers needed to cover a room. The crossover frequency is set at 2.8 kHz, dividing the workload between the tweeter and the midrange/woofer. The frequency response spans from 45 Hz to 34 kHz, and the sensitivity of 87 dB (2.83 V at 1 m) indicates the sound level produced for a given power. What to check before buying used
On this type of in-ceiling speaker, check that the aluminium dome of the central Uni-Q tweeter is not dented or scratched, as knocks are common when removing it from a ceiling or wall. Also examine the polypropylene cone of the woofer/midrange for deformation, signs of moisture or mould, as this mounting type is often exposed to damp rooms or poorly insulated lofts. Finally, check the condition of the grille and mounting basket, whose springs or clips may have been worn out by repeated installation and removal cycles.
