Description
The KEF Ci 80 is a built-in speaker belonging to the UNI-Q Custom Installation range. It has been designed to be installed directly into a partition wall or ceiling, offering a discreet Hi-Fi sound solution, with no visible presence of traditional speakers in the room.
Its architecture is based on an 80mm woofer with a white polypropylene cone, fitted with a double neo compound magnet, at the acoustic centre of which sits a 19mm aluminium dome tweeter. This coaxial arrangement, characteristic of KEF's UNI-Q technology, allows the emission points of the bass and treble frequencies to coincide, providing a coherent sound image even when listening from close up or off-centre, which is particularly useful for ceiling installations.
The speaker can operate as an open-back system or be installed in a 0.35-litre enclosure, depending on installation constraints and the desired sound.
The Ci 80 is aimed at those who wish to integrate Hi-Fi sound reproduction into an interior without installing floorstanding or bookshelf speakers: a discreet home cinema, sound for a living room, an equipped kitchen or bathroom, or multiroom built into partition walls and ceilings.

What to check before buying used
The woofer's double neo compound magnet must remain free of moisture damage or deformation, common on this type of built-in speaker exposed to temperature variations in false ceilings or bathrooms. Check that the aluminium dome of the coaxial UNI-Q tweeter is neither dented nor perforated, a fault that directly affects the sound image coherence specific to this technology. Also examine the finishing grille and the mounting clips, which are often weakened when removing the unit from a wall or ceiling.
