Description

The Ci160QS is a 2-way in-ceiling/in-wall speaker from KEF, designed for invisible installation in a wall or ceiling. It relies on the brand's patented Uni-Q coaxial technology, which brings the tweeter and midbass driver together at a single point of emission to cover a wide listening area without multiplying the number of speakers.

The 160 mm Uni-Q system pairs a 19 mm aluminium dome tweeter with a polypropylene-cone midbass driver. This coaxial configuration places both transducers on a common axis, promoting even sound dispersion throughout the room, regardless of where you are relative to the mounting point. The 3.8 kHz crossover frequency determines the frequency split between the tweeter and midbass driver, while the frequency response of 45 Hz to 34 kHz covers a wide range, from the lower midrange up to the highest treble.

With a sensitivity of 87 dB (2.83 V/1 m) and a power handling of 10 to 125 watts, this speaker can be paired with amplifiers of varying power outputs, allowing some flexibility in the choice of accompanying electronics.

This model is aimed at those wishing to install discreet sound dispersion in a living room, office or any space where free-standing or stand-mounted speakers are not desired. Its slim-profile design makes it easy to integrate into a wall or ceiling cut-out, for a clean visual finish once installed.

What to check before buying used

With this type of in-ceiling/in-wall speaker, the rear cabinet (basket and grille) deserves careful inspection: impacts, cracks or deformed spring-loaded fixings compromise the seal and the fit in the wall or ceiling. Also check the condition of the polypropylene midbass cone and the aluminium tweeter dome, which may show signs of dents, tears or oxidation not visible before installation. The surrounds, more susceptible to ageing and ambient humidity in a built-in installation, should remain supple, without being cracked or hardened.
