Description
The Ci3-80QT is a built-in speaker from KEF, designed for ceiling installation. It is a 3-way model fitted with 4 drivers, designed for discreet integration whilst retaining refined sound reproduction thanks to the brand's own coaxial technology.
Its distinctive feature lies in its motorised mechanism: the speaker can pivot to turn towards the listener when in use, then return to its original position and retract into the ceiling once idle. It also incorporates Uni-Q technology, which combines several drivers on a single coaxial axis to deliver a precise sound image, regardless of the listening position in the room.
This model is aimed primarily at high-end home cinema installations, where visual discretion is sought without sacrificing listening quality. Thanks to its motorised orientation, the Ci3-80QT can be used as a left, right or centre front speaker, in a configuration where traditional stand-mounted or wall-mounted speakers are not desired.

What to check before buying used
The motorised pivot and ceiling-retraction mechanism should be tested through several full cycles: a rubbing noise, a jam mid-travel, or an orientation that no longer returns to its original position indicate a worn motor or gearing. Also check the condition of the grille and the recessed housing, which may have been forced or improperly refitted during a previous installation. Finally, listen to the Uni-Q coaxial driver across the full frequency range for any off-centring or distortion, a sign of impact damage during removal.
