The KEF Ci3160RLb-THX is an in-wall/in-ceiling subwoofer designed for integrated Home Cinema installations, where the aim is to conceal the electroacoustics while retaining performance comparable to a traditional subwoofer. It belongs to KEF's Ci R Series and is aimed at audio projects requiring discreet architectural integration without compromising on low-frequency impact.
This model houses three 160 mm ultra-low-frequency drivers, mounted in an aluminium chassis. This rigid structure contributes to the mechanical stability of the assembly and to managing the vibrations generated by the cones during bass reproduction. The subwoofer is certified THX Ultra2 and THX Select2, two benchmarks used to validate a system's ability to convey the dramatic intensity of film soundtracks in room configurations defined by these standards.
The Ci3160RLb-THX does not operate on its own: it must be paired with the KEF KASA500 amplifier, specifically designed for this type of subwoofer. A single KASA500 amplifier can power up to two Ci3160RLb-THX subwoofers, allowing for two-subwoofer Home Cinema installations for the most demanding configurations in terms of low-frequency coverage in the room.
This subwoofer is aimed at installers and private individuals building a home cinema room or a high-end Home Cinema lounge, with a strong constraint on visual integration: traditional floor-standing or stand-mounted speakers are not an option, and in-wall or in-ceiling installation is preferred. Compliance with THX standards also makes it a relevant choice for projects where the room has been designed or calibrated to these standards.

What to check before buying used
Three 160 mm drivers in an in-wall aluminium chassis: check for any signs of impact or deformation on the cones, which would be invisible once installed in a wall or ceiling. Also check the condition of the grille and finishing frame, as well as the presence of all original fixings needed for an airtight installation. As this subwoofer only operates with the KASA500 amplifier, make sure the unit offered has never been used with another amplifier that could have overdriven the cones.
