Description
The KEF Kube 15 MIE is an active sealed-enclosure subwoofer, designed to complement a stereo or home cinema installation by providing the low-frequency extension that the main speakers cannot always deliver on their own. It houses its own amplification stage and connects via either a line-level input or a high-level input.
The 38 cm woofer is paired with 300 W RMS amplification and covers a range of 20 Hz to 140 Hz, with a maximum sound pressure level of 116 dB. The sealed-enclosure design promotes a rigorous rendering of low-frequency harmonics, even at high volume. Three equalisation profiles as well as electrical phase (0° or 180°) and crossover frequency settings (40 Hz to 140 Hz) allow the response to be adjusted according to the subwoofer's placement in the room.
This subwoofer is aimed at hi-fi and home cinema systems seeking deep bass and careful integration with the room's acoustics. Automatic or manual power-on and compatibility with the KEF KW1 wireless module make installation easier, including when placed away from the amplifier or AV system.

What to check before buying used
On this type of sealed subwoofer with substantial excursion, check that the 38 cm woofer's suspension is not sagging or cracked, a sign of wear that affects low-frequency performance. Test the built-in amplification across the full 20-140 Hz range to rule out any hum, cutting out or distortion at high volume. Also check that the phase settings and equalisation profiles work correctly, along with the condition of the RCA and high-level inputs.
