Description
The LSX II is a pair of active speakers from KEF designed to offer a complete hi-fi system without a separate amplifier or source. Each speaker features its own amplification and communicates with the other via a network link, which simplifies installation in a living room, office or bedroom. Wireless and wired connectivity allows connection to a television, a laptop or online streaming services alike.
Each speaker combines a 19 mm aluminium dome tweeter with a 115 mm aluminium/magnesium alloy woofer, backed by Class D amplification delivering 70 W for the woofer and 30 W for the tweeter. The frequency response spans from 49 Hz to 47 kHz, with more pronounced bass extension than the previous generation, for a maximum output level of 102 dB. On the digital side, wireless resolution reaches PCM 48 kHz/24-bit, and the USB-C input accepts up to 96 kHz/24-bit, covering the majority of current digital sources.
Connectivity includes an HDMI ARC input, a TOSLINK optical input, a USB-C port, a 3.5 mm analogue auxiliary input and two RJ45 ports (network and inter-speaker link). Wireless streaming covers AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast, Bluetooth 4.2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect as well as other services and network protocols.
With its compact dimensions of 155 x 240 x 180 mm and a weight of 7.2 kg per speaker, the LSX II is aimed at those seeking a versatile and discreet hi-fi solution, capable of being placed on a shelf, a desk, or wall-mounted with dedicated accessories, for both music listening and television audio.

What to check before buying used
On this type of connected active speaker, systematically test the network link between the two units as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth recognition, as these are the points most likely to cause problems over time. Also check that each input works correctly (HDMI ARC, optical, USB-C, auxiliary) and listen carefully to the tweeter and woofer at different levels to detect any distortion or unwanted noise.
