The Q7 Meta is a three-way floorstanding speaker from KEF, designed to equip a stereo installation or a home cinema system. It combines a 12th generation Uni-Q coaxial driver with two dedicated woofers, in a floorstanding format intended to cover the entire sound spectrum without resorting to a separate subwoofer.
The heart of this speaker is a 10 cm Uni-Q coaxial driver paired with a 19 mm vented aluminium dome tweeter incorporating MAT metamaterial absorption technology. This coaxial module places the tweeter at the centre of the midrange to make the frequency emission points coincide, which promotes a coherent sound image regardless of listening angle. The move to a 3-way configuration, with crossover frequencies at 440 Hz and 2.3 kHz, allows for cleaner separation between bass, midrange and treble. The two 16.5 cm woofers, with a hybrid aluminium structure, are designed to limit unwanted resonances and maintain linear piston movement, even at high excursion.
With an impedance of 4 ohms (3.2 ohms minimum), a sensitivity of 87 dB and a recommended power range of 15 W to 200 W, the Q7 Meta is suited to amplifiers of moderate to high power. What to check before buying used
Check for any signs of impact or cracks on the cabinet and base, which should be free of play or deformation following any transport. Examine the suspensions of the two 16.5 cm woofers: they should remain supple, with no cracking or sagging, and the movement of the Uni-Q module should be perfectly centred.
