Description
The KEF Q8 Meta Atmos is a compact speaker from the Q Meta range, designed to serve as a surround channel, high-fidelity rear speaker, or Dolby Atmos effects module. Thanks to its integrated wall mount, it can be hung directly, or placed on top of another speaker to add height effects without in-ceiling installation.
It is built around a 12th generation Uni-Q coaxial driver, combining a 13 cm woofer with a 2.5 cm vented aluminium tweeter featuring MAT technology. This coaxial arrangement places both transducers on the same axis, which promotes a coherent sound image even in surround positions, where the listener is not always facing the speaker. The sealed enclosure, the 2.7 kHz crossover frequency and the stated frequency response of 96 Hz to 20 kHz (-3 dB) position this speaker as a complementary point in a multichannel system rather than as a standalone main speaker for bass.
With a sensitivity of 86 dB and an impedance of 4 ohms (3.2 ohms minimum), it accepts a recommended power of between 10 and 150 W, making it compatible with most home cinema amplifiers on the market. Its maximum sound level of 106 dB/1W/1m and compact format (176 x 180 x 259 mm for 4.5 kg per unit) allow it to be integrated into wall-mounted or height configurations without excessive weight constraints.

What to check before buying used
Check the cabinet joinery and finish, which are sensitive to knocks and humidity during transport or when a wall mount has been removed and refitted. Visually inspect the Uni-Q coaxial driver: the tweeter dome and its surround should show no deformation, no signs of denting, and no burnt smell indicating a forced voice coil. Test each speaker separately across the full frequency range to rule out any crackling or dropouts, particularly in the treble handled by the MAT tweeter. Make sure the integrated wall mount is complete and undamaged, as otherwise height mounting becomes difficult.
