KEF R3 Meta

The R3 Meta is a bookshelf speaker from KEF, built around a three-way architecture. It shares its driver array with higher-end models in the R Series, placing it among the most technically accomplished compact speakers in this range.

The heart of the system is a Uni-Q coaxial array combining a 2.5 cm dome tweeter with waveguide and a 12.5 cm midrange, complemented by a 16.5 cm hybrid aluminium woofer. This coaxial configuration places the tweeter at the centre of the midrange so that the two drivers behave as a point source, which promotes a coherent and stable stereo image even off the central listening axis. Frequency response extends from 38 Hz to 50 kHz (-6 dB), with crossover frequencies set at 420 Hz and 2.3 kHz between the three ways. A sensitivity of 87 dB (2.83 V/1 m) and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms (3.2 ohms minimum) mean that an amplifier capable of delivering comfortable current into a low load is preferable to make the most of the speaker, with recommended power ranging from 15 to 180 W.

This speaker suits a user wanting a compact pair to place on stands or on furniture, in a living room or dedicated listening room, for demanding stereo music listening. The maximum sound level of 110 dB/1W/1m allows for dynamic listening without premature clipping, suiting both relaxed listening and livelier sessions alike.
