The R5 Meta is a 3-way bass-reflex floorstanding speaker, designed by KEF for use as a stereo pair or in a surround configuration within a home cinema system from the R Series. Its slim, elegant format allows it to fit into a living room without taking up excessive floor space.
It is built around the 12th generation Uni-Q coaxial driver, combined with MAT (Metamaterial Absorption Technology), complemented by two 13 cm hybrid aluminium woofers. The Uni-Q coaxial point brings the tweeter and midrange together at the same geometric location, promoting a coherent sound image across a wide listening area. The frequency response extends from 52 Hz to 28 kHz at -3 dB, and up to 38 Hz - 50 kHz at -6 dB, providing reproduction that covers both the deepest bass and the highest treble. The crossover frequencies are set at 400 Hz and 2.7 kHz, dividing the work between the three ways. With a sensitivity of 87 dB (2.83 V/1 m) and a maximum sound level of 111 dB/1W/1m, it requires an amplifier capable of delivering sufficient current, with the input impedance dropping to a minimum of 3.2 ohms for a nominal value of 4 ohms.

What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the surrounds on both 13 cm aluminium woofers, which can stiffen or crack over time and affect bass performance. Also inspect the Uni-Q coaxial point (tweeter and midrange) for any dents, impact marks or signs of oxidation on the protective grilles. Finally, examine the cabinet and plinth given the height and weight of the floorstanding speaker, checking for scratches, veneer distortion or play in the plinth fixing.
