Description
The KEF R6 Meta is a sealed 3-way centre speaker, designed to integrate into a home cinema system in an LCR (Left-Centre-Right) configuration. It belongs to KEF's R series and shares its acoustic design with the stereo models in the same range, with the aim of achieving tonal consistency between the speakers within a single system.
It features a 12th-generation Uni-Q coaxial driver, combining a 2.5 cm dome tweeter and a 12.5 cm midrange within a single point of emission. This point-source arrangement aims to disperse sound more evenly throughout the room, reducing the limited "sweet spot" effect encountered with separate drivers. The tweeter is equipped with MAT (Metamaterial Absorption Technology), a labyrinthine structure that absorbs a large proportion of the sound waves emitted behind the dome, which limits distortion and contributes to cleaner reproduction at the top of the spectrum. Two 16.5 cm hybrid aluminium woofers complete the system, with crossover frequencies set at 500 Hz and 2.5 kHz. The stated frequency response spans 65 Hz to 28 kHz, with a sensitivity of 88 dB and a maximum sound level of 111 dB/1W/1m. The nominal impedance is 4 ohms, with a minimum of 3.2 ohms, and the recommended power ranges from 15 to 250 W.

What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking the condition of the diaphragms on both aluminium woofers, which may show deformation or signs of impact, as well as the integrity of the Uni-Q tweeter dome, a central component that is costly to replace on its own. Checking for the absence of unusual noise or distortion at moderate volume can help identify any suspension issues with the woofers. It is also worth inspecting the cabinet and finish, as the R6 Meta is a speaker of considerable size and weight (625 x 200 x 339 mm, 17.8 kg), which may have been handled or transported on several occasions.
