Kelinac 514MG

The Kelinac 514MG, also identified as KEL 514 MG, is a three-way floorstanding speaker intended for home stereo listening. Each frequency band is entrusted to a dedicated transducer, with the midrange housed in its own chamber, which sets this design apart from more common two-way floorstanders.

The bass section relies on two 13 cm drivers whose cone is made of woven carbon. This material aims for high rigidity combined with low mass, a prerequisite for cone movement that stays faithful to the signal. The high-excursion suspension allows for wide travel, ensuring sustained bass without premature clipping of the movement. The midrange, also 13 cm, uses an Aerogel cone and benefits from an internal sealed enclosure: isolated from the pressure generated by the woofers, it operates within a stable volume, with a claimed very low harmonic distortion rate. Treble is handled by a 25 mm magnesium dome with a neodymium motor, offering a sensitivity of 95 dB at 8 ohms, whose low directivity widens the useful listening area.

The cabinet deserves as much attention as the transducers. It is built from 20 mm MDF with an internal brace placed between the bass drivers and the port, to limit unwanted cabinet vibrations. Internal damping is provided by 20 mm felt. The real wood veneer covers all panels, including the inner surfaces, a choice intended to balance stresses and prevent warping over time. Decoupling spikes are included with the speaker.

This floorstanding format suits listeners seeking a structured sound reproduction in a living room, with a natural driver height that does not require stands. The four finishes on offer allow it to blend into very different interiors, from contemporary lacquer to traditional wood. The bass-reflex loading requires some distance from the rear wall to balance the bass, and the supplied spikes serve to stabilise the cabinet on the floor.
