The Kenwood CR-ST100S is a multi-tuner living room radio capable of receiving the FM band with RDS, DAB/DAB+ as well as web radios from around the world via an internet connection. It also features Bluetooth with the A2DP profile for streaming music from a smartphone, and Spotify Connect to control playback directly from the Spotify app.
Network connection is via an 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi module compatible with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, allowing it to join most internet boxes without complex configuration. The unit has a USB input and a Line-In input in 3.5 mm jack format for connecting a wired audio source. Sound reproduction relies on a full-range bass-reflex speaker system, with 7.62 cm drivers and a practical maximum output of 2 x 10 W RMS. The large colour TFT screen makes it easy to navigate menus and view playback information.
The CR-ST100S can store up to 20 radio stations and 10 Spotify presets, for quickly finding your favourite programmes or playlists. A clock function with dual alarm and timer rounds off the set, useful for everyday use in a bedroom or kitchen.
This model is aimed at those who want to centralise several radio and music sources in a single compact unit, without going through a separate hi-fi system: kitchen, bedroom, office or small living room. What to check before buying used
The Wi-Fi module and DAB tuner deserve testing under real conditions: temperamental reception or repeated connection drop-outs often indicate an ageing module, bearing in mind that the availability of certain network services changes over time. Also check the colour TFT screen, which is prone to dead pixels, as well as the dial and navigation buttons, which wear with use. Finally, listening at high volume allows you to check that the built-in bass-reflex speakers show no sign of a worn suspension.
