What to check before buying used
The front-firing driver of the RP-1200SW deserves close inspection: the surround and spider can wear or crack with age, particularly if the subwoofer has been driven at high levels. It is also worth checking that the built-in Class D amplification and analogue preamp are functioning correctly, as their capacitors can age, along with the condition of the laminar vent and the cabinet, which is prone to damage given the unit's weight. A test at gradually increasing volume can reveal any suspension noise or distortion on the lowest frequencies.
