Description
The RP-1400SW is an active subwoofer from Klipsch, belonging to the Reference Premiere range. Designed to reinforce the low-frequency reproduction of a home cinema or stereo system, it houses its own amplifier and connects to an existing system to extend the frequency response towards the bass.
The unit is built around an integrated amplifier combining an analogue preamplifier and a Class D output stage. The analogue preamplifier is intended to preserve the original signal path, while the Class D output stage delivers 500 W RMS, with a peak of 1000 W. The stated frequency response spans from 16 Hz to 141 Hz (+/- 3 dB), placing the subwoofer in deep bass territory. The maximum sound level is rated at 124 dB. The driver is front-firing, allowing for some flexibility in room placement without needing rear clearance, as the port is also located at the front.

What to check before buying used
The driver's front cone deserves close inspection: the surround and spider can dry out or tear after several years of heavy use. Systematically test the built-in Class D amplifier and its analogue preamplifier across the full power range, with no hiss or unwanted distortion at high volume. Also check the front port and the condition of the terminal block, as well as looking for any signs of impact damage on the 38 kg cabinet, which would indicate difficult handling.
