The RP-500SA II is an effects speaker from Klipsch, belonging to the Reference Premiere series. It is designed to fill several roles within a home cinema system: an upward-firing immersive speaker for Dolby Atmos reproduction, a height channel or rear surround speaker, depending on the configuration chosen by the user.
The hybrid Tractrix horn, made from silicone composite and wider (90° x 90° coverage), directs high-frequency waves towards the listening area. The 2.5 cm titanium-dome aluminium tweeter, fitted with an LTS suspension, aims to limit distortion. The tweeter housing is vented to reduce standing waves that could otherwise generate unwanted harmonics. On the bass-midrange side, a 13.3 cm woofer with a Cerametallic cone and aluminium ring equips this 2-way speaker, in a sealed enclosure, within an MDF cabinet finished in textured wood-effect vinyl.
A switchable crossover, accessible on the rear of the speaker, allows switching between Dolby Atmos mode and Dolby Surround mode, to adapt the speaker's behaviour to the intended use within the installation.
This speaker is aimed at home cinema enthusiasts wishing to complete or upgrade a multichannel installation towards immersive audio, particularly those already using speakers from the Reference Premiere range and seeking tonal consistency across channels.

What to check before buying used
Test each speaker separately to check the integrity of the Cerametallic driver and the absence of rubbing noise in the cone, a sign of voice coil misalignment. Inspect the hybrid Tractrix horn made from silicone composite, which is prone to cracking and discolouration with age. Check that the Atmos/Surround crossover selector on the rear engages properly, as its contacts can oxidise, and examine the wood-effect vinyl finish of the MDF cabinet for blistering or lifting at the corners.
