Description
The Droplet CDP 5.0 HD is a high-end stereo CD player designed by Consonance, produced to mark the brand's 30th anniversary. It features a Philips CD-Pro2 reading mechanism paired with an ESS ES9038 digital-to-analogue converter, and is intended for use as a single source within a demanding hi-fi system, without requiring an external conversion device.
The ESS ES9038 DAC processes streams up to 24-bit/192 kHz, which also allows the unit to be used as a standalone converter thanks to its coaxial and USB-B digital inputs, in addition to CD playback. The frequency response is stated as 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a tolerance of ±0.1 dB, and the signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 115 dB via the XLR output, a level that limits perceptible background noise even at high volume.
