Description
The Magnat Signature 1109 is the largest model in the Signature range, the German manufacturer Magnat's flagship line. It is a floorstanding speaker designed to take centre stage in a demanding stereo or home cinema setup, relying on displaced air volume and precision of reproduction.
The cabinet is built around two 200 mm woofers and a 170 mm midrange driver, a configuration designed to deliver a wide, spacious soundstage. At the top end, a dedicated module housing two fmax Signature tweeters allows the speaker to reproduce frequencies up to 55 kHz, a bandwidth that earns it Hi-Res Audio certification.
This Signature 1109 is aimed at the demanding listener, with a room large enough to make the most of its size and its large internal volumes. Its floorstanding format and the expected output level make it a speaker better suited to a living room or a dedicated listening room than to a small space.
The cabinet is available in a matt satin finish, in black or white, giving it a refined visual presence to complement its sonic qualities.
What to check before buying used
On such a large floorstanding speaker, the surrounds of the two woofers deserve careful inspection: the rubber can harden or crack over the years, affecting bass reproduction. Also check the condition of the fmax module housing the two tweeters, which is sensitive to impacts during transport, as well as the matt satin cabinet, whose edges and finish easily show handling marks. An inspection of the midrange driver, to spot any possible cone sagging, usefully completes the check before listening.
