Description
The Transpuls 1500 is a 3-way floorstanding speaker from Magnat, designed in a retro spirit inspired by the 60s and 70s. Its cabinet combines straight lines, a slight tilt and a contrast between the black front baffle and a wood veneer, for a look drawn directly from the golden age of rock.
The acoustic configuration is built around a large 38 cm woofer with a paper cone, a 17 cm midrange also in paper, and a double silk dome tweeter housed in acoustic horns. The reinforced MDF cabinet, particularly voluminous, uses a bass-reflex loading that eases air circulation to reach very low frequencies. The stated frequency response spans from 16 Hz to 35 kHz, with crossover frequencies at 920 Hz and 4800 Hz between the three ways, and 2nd and 3rd order filtering with phase correction applied to each driver. The 95 dB sensitivity delivers a high sound level with little power, while the 4 to 8 ohm impedance and the 250 W power handling (500 W peak) allow use with amplifiers of varying power.
The double horn tweeter is designed to reproduce high frequencies with precision and to direct them more directly towards the listener, a principle inherited from PA speakers.

What to check before buying used
Check the flexibility of the 38 cm woofer's suspensions: sagging, hardening or a crack in the foam indicates a worn example and affects the deep bass promised. Also inspect the midrange and the silk domes of the horn tweeters for tears or dents. Finally, examine the wood veneer and black baffle, which are prone to chips, delamination and traces of moisture on such a voluminous MDF cabinet.
