Description
The AMP 10 is a 16-channel power amplifier from Marantz, built around Class D modules. It is designed as the complement to a home cinema preamplifier, here paired by the manufacturer with the Marantz AV10, to form a power chain dedicated to multichannel configurations.
Each channel delivers 200 W into 8 ohms and up to 400 W into 6 ohms, measured at 1 kHz with a distortion rate of 0.05% across 2 channels. This power reserve per channel allows a large number of speakers to be driven simultaneously, with a useful dynamic margin for the most demanding sound scenes in a home cinema system. Connectivity includes 16 unbalanced RCA inputs and 16 balanced inputs, complemented by an input and output for wired remote control, a trigger input, a Flasher In socket and an RS232 port, all of which facilitate integration into an installation controlled remotely or by a centralised control system.
This model is aimed at large-scale multichannel home cinema installations, where a high number of speakers must be driven by a single power unit rather than by several separate amplifiers. It is particularly suited to configurations built around a dedicated home cinema preamplifier, in a room where simplifying the wiring and centralising the power are desired.

What to check before buying used
On a multichannel power amplifier of this size, the ventilation and condition of the heatsinks deserve particular attention after several years of intensive use, as does the proper functioning of each of the 16 channels, which should be tested individually rather than in a partial configuration. Also check that the RCA connectors and control sockets (RS232, trigger, remote) show no play or loose contact, as these ports are heavily used when integrating into a remotely controlled system.
