Description
The CD6007 is a hi-fi CD player from Marantz, presented as an evolution of the CD6006. It retains the latter's architecture with more finely selected components and an optimised circuit, with the aim of improving sound reproduction compared with the previous model.
Its digital-to-analogue conversion relies on an AK4490 converter, offered with two filtering options to adjust the behaviour of the audio signal. The converted signals then pass through the HDAM-SA2 amplifier, a compact circuit developed by Marantz, before reaching gold-plated sync outputs. The unit also features rigid feet designed to limit vibrations, as well as an oversized, low-noise power supply that feeds the digital and analogue stages separately.
The CD6007 also stands out for its headphone amplifier, revised and improved compared with that of the CD6006. It uses the same HDAM-SA2 circuit and offers three gain settings (low, medium, high), allowing the amplification level to be adapted to headphones with very different sensitivities.

What to check before buying used
The optical block remains the sensitive point: a worn laser results in a temperamental tray, reading errors on certain CDs or an abnormally long access time. Also check the tray mechanism, which can creak or struggle to open with age, and test the three headphone gain settings as well as the gold-plated sync outputs to rule out any loose contact.
