The Cinema 50 is an audio video integrated amplifier from Marantz, designed to drive a complete home cinema installation. With its 9.4 channels, it enables advanced multichannel configurations including immersive formats, without requiring a separate power amplifier for most domestic uses.
Output power varies according to the load and the number of channels driven: up to 220 W on a mono speaker at 6 ohms, 150 W in stereo at 6 ohms, and 110 W in stereo at 8 ohms across the full 20 Hz-20 kHz band with a distortion rate of 0.08%. This last measurement, the most demanding, reflects the unit's actual behaviour in stereo listening at low distortion. The unit handles video resolution up to 8K and 4K at 4:4:4, with HDCP 2.3 compatibility, as well as the DTS:X, DTS Neural:X and DTS Virtual:X sound formats. MDAX2 processing restores compressed audio files with added definition.
This type of amplifier is aimed at those building or renewing a demanding home cinema room, with several speakers and subwoofers, who want a system hub capable of evolving with the addition of new sources or listening zones. Built-in HEOS streaming also allows multiroom playback without additional equipment.

What to check before buying used
On an AV multichannel amplifier of this complexity, test each channel separately at moderate volume: an aged potentiometer or protection relay can result in a silent channel, hiss or unexpected cut-outs. Also check that all HDMI inputs correctly pass 4K/8K and HDCP 2.3 without flickering or signal loss, a common issue with video boards after several years. Finally, inspect the ventilation and the condition of the power supply capacitors, which are put under strain by the power delivered across so many simultaneous channels.
