The Cinema 70s is a 7.2-channel audio-video receiver from Marantz, designed in a low-height format to fit into a low cabinet or a compact installation. It handles speaker amplification, decoding of modern surround formats and video distribution up to 8K resolution, making it the heart of a home cinema installation.

What to check before buying used
On an AV receiver of this generation, the volume potentiometers and front panel buttons are the first sensitive points: test them across their full range to detect any crackling or loose contacts. Also check that each of the seven amplification channels produces sound and that the HDMI inputs, particularly the 8K-compatible ones, are recognised without interruption by a recent television. Checking the eARC function and Atmos/DTS:X decoding at start-up helps rule out any issue with the video board or decoding chip.
