Description
The MM7025 is a two-channel power amplifier from Marantz, designed to take over from a preamplifier or an AV amplifier. It can be used both to power up the front channels of a home cinema system and to reinforce an existing stereo system.
It delivers 140 W RMS per channel into 8 ohms, a power output that allows demanding speakers to be driven with headroom to spare. The unit features XLR inputs for a balanced connection less prone to interference, DC triggers for automatic power-on synchronised with the rest of the system, as well as a Marantz DBus intended to facilitate communication between devices from the brand. Its display has also been redesigned.
It shares its technology with the MM7055 and MM8003 models, making it easy to pair them within the same system, for example to build a scalable multichannel configuration.
This model is aimed at those wishing to separate the power stage from the preamplification, whether for a multichannel home cinema system or to add extra dynamics to a stereo setup.

What to check before buying used
On a power amplifier of this generation, the power supply capacitors and protection relays are worth checking, as they age with years of use. It is worth testing the unit under load on both channels, at moderate then high volume, to rule out any hum, distortion or dropouts. The XLR inputs and speaker output terminals are also worth checking, particularly the cleanliness of the contacts.
