Description
The MODEL 10 is a stereo integrated amplifier from Marantz, built around a fully balanced dual-mono topology. It combines a preamplification stage, a power amplifier and an MM and MC cartridge-compatible phono preamplifier within a single chassis, allowing it to drive a pair of speakers as well as a turntable directly, without any additional electronics.
The amplifier delivers a rated power of 2 x 250W into 8ohm and 2 x 500W into 4ohm, with total harmonic distortion of just 0.005% and a damping factor of 500 measured across the 20Hz-20kHz range, two figures that reflect precise control of the speakers and low-coloration sound reproduction. The power amplification circuit operates in BTL switching mode, powered by independent SMPS units for the left and right channels, while the preamplification stage relies on HDAM modules in a fully balanced configuration. What to check before buying used
On an integrated amplifier of this power and complexity, it is worth checking that both independent SMPS power units are working correctly, and that there is no noise or hum on switch-on. The particularly sensitive MM/MC phono stage deserves testing on each gain range (Low, Mid, High) to rule out any contact issues or worn components. It is also worth checking the operation of the front-panel OLED display and digital VU meter, as well as the travel of the electrical volume and tone potentiometers.
