Description
The Model 30 is a stereo integrated amplifier from Marantz, designed for demanding Hi-Fi systems handling both analogue and digital sources. It combines a preamplifier and a power stage built as two independent sections, an approach intended to limit internal interference between sensitive circuits and high-power modules.
The power section delivers 2x100 W RMS into 8 ohms and 2x200 W RMS into 4 ohms, with a damping factor of 500 reflecting good control over the connected speakers. The stated total harmonic distortion is 0.005%, for a signal described as clean, and the frequency response spans 5 Hz to 50 kHz. What to check before buying used
When buying used, it is worth checking that the volume potentiometer works properly, in particular for any crackling or channel imbalance, as well as the condition of the protection relays and power supply capacitors, which are prone to ageing on this type of power electronics. The MM/MC phono input selector should also be tested, as should the copper speaker terminals, which must remain firmly secured and free of oxidation to ensure optimal contact.
