Description
The Marantz SACD 10 is a high-end SACD and CD player incorporating a DAC section, capable of playing physical media as well as converting external digital sources thanks to its dedicated inputs. It thus combines an optical playback function with that of a standalone audio converter within a single unit.
Its SACDM-3 mechanism is exclusive to this model. Digital-to-analogue conversion relies on a new-generation MMM DAC section, paired with an HDAM module and a likewise renewed HDAM output circuit. A jitter reducer and an asynchronous mode equip the USB-B input, along with a dedicated isolator, which helps limit digital interference during conversion. The triple copper-plated aluminium chassis and multilayer circuit boards, combined with isolated sub-enclosures, aim to reduce internal electrical and mechanical interference. In terms of performance, the unit offers a frequency response of 2 Hz to 50 kHz in SACD playback and 2 Hz to 20 kHz in CD, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 118 dB in SACD versus 116 dB in CD, and a dynamic range of 112 dB in SACD versus 98 dB in CD.
This player is aimed at enthusiasts of physical CD and SACD media wishing to retain a dedicated source while having access to a DAC function for integrating other digital devices. Its unbalanced line outputs (2.0 Vrms) and balanced XLR outputs (4.0 Vrms) allow it to be paired with an existing amplifier or system fitted with corresponding inputs.

What to check before buying used
The optical block and the SACDM-3 mechanism, specific to this model, warrant a full playback test on both SACD and CD, including near the end of the disc, to rule out any skipping or reading errors. Also check the tray: opening and closing should remain silent and smooth. Testing the analogue outputs and the asynchronous USB-B input confirms the absence of hum or dropouts related to the DAC section.
