Description
The MartinLogan Dynamo 12 is an active subwoofer designed to complement a hi-fi or home cinema system. Its sealed medium-density fibreboard (MDF) enclosure houses a long-throw 30.48 cm woofer, paired with a digital amplifier delivering up to 1,600 W peak (800 W RMS).
The anodised aluminium cone, mounted on a stamped steel chassis, is designed to withstand significant excursion while retaining its rigidity. The 2.54 cm thick front baffle is reinforced to limit unwanted enclosure vibration during high-level output. The stated frequency response spans 22 to 200 Hz ± 3 dB, measured under anechoic conditions via the LFE input.
Bass control is handled by a Vojtko digital signal processor running at 500 MHz, with 64-bit processing. This DSP manages the low-pass filter, adjustable from 35 to 120 Hz in 1° steps, the slope (bypass, 18 dB/oct or 24 dB/oct), phase adjustable from 0 to 180° in 1° steps, normal or inverted polarity, as well as three presets (movie, music, night). The subwoofer also includes Anthem Room Correction (ARC Genesis), which can be switched on or off, with an adjustable level of ± 10 dB in the 20–30 Hz band.
This type of subwoofer is aimed at users whose main speakers are limited in the bass, for music listening as well as home cinema, and who want fine control over acoustic integration in their room thanks to the DSP and ARC correction. The on, 12 V trigger or automatic power modes make it easy to integrate into an existing system.

What to check before buying used
The aluminium cone and its stamped steel chassis hold up well over time, but check for any play or rubbing in the driver by running it at low volume, a sign of a worn suspension. Also check the sealed MDF enclosure for airtightness (cracks, baffle seals) and confirm the Vojtko DSP is working correctly: presets, phase and low-pass filter should respond without lag or distortion via the display or controls. Finally, test the built-in wireless reception and automatic standby, two points that can sometimes fail on units that have seen heavy use.
