The ElectroMotion ESL X is a hybrid floorstanding speaker from Martin Logan, combining an electrostatic transducer with two dynamic bass drivers. The XStat electrostatic panel fitted to this model offers a radiating area 50% larger than that of the EM-ESL model, resulting in wider sound coverage and improved power handling. The two high-excursion 8-inch woofers, fitted with custom-designed high-rigidity paper cones, are housed in an asymmetrical, non-resonant bass reflex chamber, an engineering choice that limits internal resonance while keeping the cabinet compact.

The XStat electrostatic panel is sensitive to humidity and impact: check for any dull patches or audible crackling at moderate volume, which would indicate a damaged film or a build-up of conductive dust. The two 8-inch woofers should be visually inspected for suspension damage (cracks, sagging) and listened to for any voice coil rubbing. The internal electronics (high-voltage transformer, interface boards) supporting the electrostatic stage should also be tested under prolonged power, as some faults only appear once warmed up.
