The Motif X is a hybrid electrostatic centre speaker from MartinLogan, designed to integrate with multichannel systems comprising the brand's main speakers. It can be wall-mounted or placed on a piece of furniture using a table stand that allows precise aiming of the diffuser towards the listening area, over a 35° angle.
This version incorporates a Folded Motion transducer, which supports the XStat electrostatic technology in the very high frequency range. The combination of these two technologies aims to deliver a consistent and precise rendering across the entire spectrum, particularly on voice, a central role for this type of speaker in a home cinema or multichannel configuration.

What to check before buying used
On this type of hybrid speaker, the XStat electrostatic panel deserves careful checking: absence of crackling noise, dead zones or popping at moderate volume, which are telltale signs of a damaged film or a soiled membrane. The Folded Motion transducer, more fragile than a conventional tweeter, must reproduce the treble without distortion or veiling. Also check the condition of the table stand and its 35° adjustment mechanism, as well as the integrity of the cabinet if the speaker has been wall-mounted.
