Description
The Motion 50XTi is a centre speaker from MartinLogan, designed to sit at the heart of a home cinema installation or an expandable two-channel system. It was designed to match, both aesthetically and sonically, the floorstanding speakers of the Motion 20, 40 and 60XT range, allowing a coherent multichannel configuration to be built by assembling the models over time.
This centre speaker features 6.5-inch high-excursion aluminium woofers, paired with a Folded Motion XT tweeter larger than the one found on the Motion 30i. This configuration aims for greater bass extension, while the folded ribbon tweeter seeks to deliver a precise and dynamic top end. The bass reflex port, positioned at the rear and designed to limit air turbulence, contributes to the management of low frequencies.
The cabinet features rounded edges and a slightly curved top, combined with a gloss finish. Connection is made via quality five-way binding posts, designed to ensure reliable contact with the wiring.

What to check before buying used
On this centre speaker, it is worth inspecting the surrounds of both 6.5-inch aluminium woofers, which can harden or crack with age and heat exposure. The Folded Motion XT tweeter, more fragile than a conventional dome, should be checked for any impact damage or deformation of the ribbon. A visual inspection of the gloss cabinet is also advisable, as this finish easily shows micro-scratches, as is a test of the five-way binding posts to ensure none are loose or oxidised.
