Description
The Motion F10 is a three-way floorstanding speaker from MartinLogan, designed as the most compact model in the manufacturer's floorstanding range. Standing under a metre tall, it fits into rooms where a classic floorstanding speaker would be too imposing, while retaining a distinct three-way architecture for the treble, midrange and bass frequencies.
The treble is handled by a Folded Motion Gen2 Obsidian folded ribbon tweeter, a technology that differs from conventional domes through its folded diaphragm offering a larger radiating surface. The midrange relies on a 14 cm woven fibreglass cone, while the bass is handled by two 14 cm aluminium cones paired with a bass-reflex port. Crossover frequencies are set at 280 Hz and 3000 Hz, with a stated frequency response of 38 Hz to 25 kHz (± 3 dB). The 92 dB sensitivity and 4 ohm impedance point to a speaker that is relatively easy to drive, accepting a recommended amplification power of between 20 and 250 watts. The 90° dispersion, both horizontal and vertical, favours a fairly wide listening area.

What to check before buying used
Check the condition of the surrounds on both aluminium woofers, which can crack or come loose with age, as well as the condition of the woven fibreglass midrange cones. Listen carefully to the Folded Motion tweeter at high volume to detect any crackling or distortion indicating a damaged folded diaphragm. Also inspect the cabinet, particularly the veneer and corners of this unit weighing over 20 kg, which are often marked during house moves, as well as the bass-reflex port at the rear.
