The Motion XT B100 is a bookshelf speaker from Martin Logan, designed for both two-channel installations and home cinema configurations. Its compact size allows it to be fitted into spaces where a floorstanding speaker would not fit, whilst aiming for a high level of sound reproduction.
The Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion XT tweeter, with a diaphragm of 79.8 cm², relies on a folded motor technology aimed at delivering a fine, detailed response in the high frequencies. The bass is handled by a 6.5-inch (16.5 cm) cone in Nomex-reinforced Kevlar, mounted on a cast aluminium basket and built as a single unibody piece, with a non-resonant asymmetric chamber format intended to limit sound colouration. The frequency response extends from 45 Hz to 25 kHz (+/- 3 dB), with an impedance of 4 Ohm and a power handling of between 20 and 250 W.
This model is aimed at music lovers listening in stereo as well as users wishing to complete a home cinema system with bookshelf speakers capable of delivering precise treble. The threaded stand-mounting option also allows for a raised installation for a more flexible setup.

What to check before buying used
With this type of bookshelf speaker, it is worth listening carefully to the Folded Motion XT tweeter at both moderate and high volume, as this technology is sensitive to impacts or past overload use. Also check the condition of the woofer's Kevlar/Nomex cone: no tears, dents or visible deformation of the aluminium basket. Checking the connectors and the protective grille, if present, helps ensure there is no play or looseness affecting the mechanical integrity of the unit.
