Description
The Tribute 5XW is an in-wall speaker designed for discreet integration, whether in a home cinema system or a two-channel listening setup. It belongs to MartinLogan's Masterpiece CI series, designed to deliver high acoustic performance while remaining invisible once installed within a wall.
It houses five drivers: an Obsidian Folded Motion XT tweeter with a low-mass folded diaphragm, two 5.25-inch unidirectional carbon fibre multi-section conical woofers mounted on a Nomex former, and two matching 6.5-inch passive radiators. The Folded Motion tweeter requires less excursion than a conventional 1-inch dome thanks to its larger radiating surface, resulting in very low distortion and fast high-frequency response. The unidirectional carbon fibre woofers, twice as strong as steel at one-sixth of its density, provide high rigidity without excess weight, which limits cone deformation even at high excursion. The whole system is driven by a Vojtko crossover network built from audiophile-grade components, with a crossover frequency set at 2250 Hz. The tweeter is also rotatable, allowing dispersion orientation to be adjusted depending on whether the speaker is installed horizontally or vertically.
This model is aimed at high-end installations seeking discreet in-wall integration without sacrificing sound quality, whether for demanding home cinema or refined stereo listening. Its recommended amplification range of 20 to 250 watts and its impedance compatible with 4, 6 or 8 ohm amplifiers allow it to be paired with a wide range of electronics.

What to check before buying used
On an in-wall speaker of this type, it is advisable to check the condition of the carbon fibre cones and passive radiators, which may show signs of handling marks or deformation from previous removal. Also check that the rotatable Folded Motion XT tweeter is securely held in its housing, as this orientation mechanism can loosen over time. A check of the internal connections and the Nomex former of the low-frequency drivers is also recommended, particularly if the speaker has previously been fitted into and then removed from a wall.
