Description
The MA2375 is a fully analogue integrated amplifier from McIntosh, combining a tube preamplifier and a valve power stage in a single chassis. It is intended for those seeking a hi-fi system running exclusively on tube amplification, with no transistor stage in the signal chain.
The power stage relies on four KT88 output tubes paired with four 12AT7 driver tubes, delivering 75 W per channel into 4, 8 and 16 Ohm loads. Preamplification is handled by two 12AX7A tubes and two 12AT7 tubes. Frequency response is rated between 10 Hz and 50 kHz at -3 dB, with total harmonic distortion below 0.5% (measured between 20 Hz and 20 kHz at 250 mW on both channels) and a signal-to-noise ratio of 95 dB. The damping factor exceeds 22, a figure that influences the amplifier's behaviour when driving speakers with varying loads.
The phono input can be configured for either MM or MC, with adjustable gain, capacitance, impedance and RIAA equalisation, allowing precise matching to different types of cartridge. Connectivity also includes three RCA line inputs, two XLR inputs, a preamp output, a subwoofer output and a headphone output via 6.35 mm jack. What to check before buying used
The MA2375's twelve tubes (four KT88 power valves, four 12AT7 drivers, two 12AX7A and two 12AT7 preamp tubes) age at different rates: checking for background noise, residual hum or a microphonic effect when tapped gives an indication of their actual wear. The matching of the KT88 quad affects channel balance and bias stability over time. The tube sockets, the 4/8/16 Ohm impedance selector and the MM/MC phono input settings are worth checking, as contact oxidation is the most common cause of noise or an unstable channel.
