Description
The McIntosh MA352 is a hybrid stereo integrated amplifier, a more developed version of the MA252 launched around two years earlier. It combines a valve preamplification section with an all-transistor output stage, in an entirely analogue design.
The input stage relies on two pairs of 12AX7A and 12AT7 valves, responsible for bringing the colouration and texture characteristic of valve amplification. The transistor output stage delivers 200 Watts per channel into 8 ohms, or 320 Watts per channel into 4 ohms, twice the power of the MA252. This power, displayed in real time thanks to two vu meters, allows demanding current-hungry speakers to be driven, including at low impedance.
The connectivity includes two balanced XLR inputs, three unbalanced RCA inputs and an adjustable moving magnet MM Phono input, allowing a turntable to be connected without a separate phono preamplifier. The gold-plated terminals limit contact corrosion and preserve signal quality over time. A stereo preamp output completes the set, usable to pair a second amplifier for bi-amplification or to connect one or two subwoofers.
