Description
The McIntosh MC275 V6 is a stereo tube power amplifier, the sixth evolution of an iconic model from the American brand. It operates alongside a preamplifier and a source, powering a pair of speakers by delivering an output of 2 × 75 W, or 150 W in mono configuration.
The output stage is built around four KT88 tubes, supported by four 12AT7 and three 12AX7A that handle the input, voltage and driver functions. This tube architecture is paired with Unity Coupled output transformers, a technology patented by McIntosh that allows the amplifier to deliver full power regardless of the connected speaker's impedance, 4, 8 or 16 Ω. The frequency response extends from 10 Hz to 70 kHz (+0/−3 dB) with a total harmonic distortion of 0.05%.

What to check before buying used
When buying a used tube amplifier such as the MC275 V6, several points deserve attention. The condition and age of the tubes themselves, KT88, 12AT7 and 12AX7A, directly affect performance and may require replacement depending on wear. The Unity Coupled output transformers, central to the McIntosh patent, should be checked for the absence of noise or abnormal hum. Inspecting the speaker output connectors, internal solder joints and the proper operation of the impedance selectors is also recommended before any extended return to service.
