Description
The Meridian G51 is a stereo integrated amplifier-tuner that combines a preamplifier, a controller, a power amplifier and an AM/FM tuner in a single unit. This integration makes it a system core capable of driving a pair of speakers directly without a separate power stage, whilst also covering radio reception.
Its power output of 2 × 100 W into 8 Ω relies on a low-feedback topology combined with a low output impedance, a design choice aimed at precise control of the loudspeakers. The built-in tuner handles AM and FM with RDS, allowing station information to be displayed without an external receiver. Seven stereo analogue inputs, reconfigurable as required, offer flexible connectivity for connecting multiple sources.

What to check before buying used
On an amplifier-tuner of this generation, the volume potentiometer and input switches are the first points to test, as they can develop crackling noises after several years of use. It is worth checking FM/AM reception and proper RDS operation, as well as the condition of the power stage capacitors, which determine how well the rated power output holds up over time. Checking all seven analogue inputs when setting up the unit ensures none of them is faulty.
