Schroers & Schroers Focus 150

The Focus 150 from Schroers & Schroers is an audio-video unit designed to house both a television and hi-fi system components. Its rotating top plate allows the screen, whether plasma or LCD, to be angled according to the listening or viewing position, while the two lower shelves accommodate audio equipment.

The structure is built on 20 mm thick glass, available in transparent or matt finish, giving the whole unit good rigidity. The top plate offers a load capacity of 150 kg, comfortably sufficient for even the largest televisions, while each hi-fi shelf supports up to 70 kg, allowing a turntable, amplifier or player to be installed without risk of overloading. The top shelf is mounted on anti-vibration feet, a design that limits the transmission of mechanical resonance to sensitive equipment such as a turntable. Three integrated cable-management solutions make it easier to route and conceal the connections between the various components.

The shelves are height-adjustable over a range of ±50 mm, allowing the spacing between levels to be adapted to the size of the equipment being installed. The circular feet, also height-adjustable, allow the unit to be levelled on an uneven floor.

This unit is aimed at those wishing to bring together a television and a hi-fi system within a single piece of furniture, rather than using separate units. The rotating plate will be of particular interest for setups where the screen needs to pivot to suit different viewing points within the room, while the anti-vibration feet and thick glass will suit those who value the mechanical stability of their audio equipment.

When buying used, the condition of the glass should be checked, particularly for the absence of cracks or chips on the edges and at fixing points, as well as the correct operation of the top plate's rotation mechanism, which should turn without sticking or excessive play. The anti-vibration feet also deserve inspection, as their elasticity can deteriorate over time, as should the screws and fixings of the adjustable shelves, whose height-adjustment mechanism should remain operable.
